Dyna Beads
I had heard about these Dynabeads on the CC&D and ADV forums and supposedly they were very good with no real complaints against them. I understand the physics behind them. If your tire is out of balance and say the weight moves it up then the beads will stay in place causing them to move down and counteract it, Newtons laws of motion. The videos are convincing also. I decided to try them with my new set of tires and got some more for my dad’s Father’s Day present.
After getting them put on and riding back to Cece’s house it seemed ok and I didn’t notice any real difference other than feeling every bump, crack, and pebble in the road like I remembered when my last set of Metzelers were new.
However, we went to rent movies and came back on Rio Grande through Ranchitos where you are forced to go 25-30 and wow it was like riding a pogo stick, not exaggerating.
Dive, Bounce, Dive, Bounce …
Uh yeah this is bad, I’ve head that the beads don’t work until a certain speed but damn, If my tires are this far out of balance for slow speed this isn’t going to work at all!
I guess I’m going to have to either have them balance the tires with the beads in them or just have them ditch the tubes with the beads all together and do this the old fashioned way. This is going to be a very expensive experiment.
UPDATE: Riding on these tires to work causes such severe vibration that the home made bracket for my Goodson Air Cleaner snapped in the back and my regulator bracket broke yet again. I’m letting it sit for the rest of the week till this can be fixed.
UPDATE: This looks like this may be a defective tire problem and not a Dynabead problem, so we’ll find out Friday if new tires will fix this or not.
